Dr. Ikemba Iweala, MD., FRCSEd, is the chairman of the IKE Foundation for Autism. His early medical training was at the University of Ibadan, Nigeria. He completed the compulsory NYSC program as the center’s physician at the Rural Health Center, Igbaja in Kwara State and then was a medical officer at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital in Umuahia.
After completing training in General Surgery/Trauma and Neurosurgery at the Manchester Royal Infirmary, Manchester and various other hospitals in England, he practiced briefly at the University College Hospital, Ibadan, and following further work at the University of Maryland Medical Systems, Baltimore , he became a clinical instructor in Emergency Medicine at the George Washington University Hospital in Washington DC.
He has been an Attending Physician at Bon Secours Hospital, Washington, Adventist Hospital, Takoma Park, Silver Spring, Alexandria Hospital, Alexandria, Northern Virginia. He is currently Attending Physician at Providence Hospital in Washington DC where he has worked for over 20 years.
He is a Fellow of the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh and also a Fellow of the Royal Society of Medicine.
